In trying to discern the HatsRequired.com project of providing hats and education on wearing hats as better sun protection, I spoke with someone and asked if this was a distraction from the most important message.. I haven't even sorted out how to share the Gospel as I know it.
Should I be concerned with getting more to protect themselves from heat and sun with a hat. Should I be so concerned with the Environment, in my effort to prevent carcinogens from making us sick..?
The morning after I shared these questions and concerns, the Pope announced his views on pollution and it becomes apparent that he feels there is a moral obligation for himself as a Christian to preserve and prolong life and speak out against pollution.
Today I met with a couple who spoke of other effects of heat, such as Lou Gerhig's disease, being caused by extreme heat on the brain damaging neurons, as I loosely understood it. Their son works on a non profit project in China related to this issue.
I am not sure that hats would help but it felt like a God-incidence (no coincidences) that she would be the first supplier I would speak to of this project.. I need to look into the link she spoke of to better understand if hats would even cut down on the type of heat she spoke of as causing brain damage and neurological conditions such as autism, but she felt that our country's people are ignorant to the issues affecting us and giving us disease. I was not sure if I was on the right track. I should be bringing Peace or change that looks inward to our connection to God, not inducing frustration.
She feels a few hats won't make a difference.
I want to speak with the school board too though, and ultimately I want to see schools make it mandatory for children to wear hats, as it is in Australia.
Then I read Jeremiah 8:11 "They offer superficial treatments for my people's mortal wounds."
So I need to continue as Jer 6:16 "Stop at the crossroads and look around. Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it. Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls."
So it is clear that the remedy is more than superficial treatments... the shelter I should focus on should be for the soul.. I think. Is this a brick wall scripture to focus on the deeper treatment, the condition of our country's soul to make little and big decisions that bring us health or illness?
