What’s worse than a mosquito buzzing in your ears all night?
A silent mosquito nibbling your face all night.
I heard a mosquito once earlier in the day, it didn’t buzz when it was right beside my ear, until it was in distress when I brushed my ear. There must have been two because I got one but was pestered by another throughout the night.
I even felt and brushed away something silent near my ear at one point before finding bites on the bags under each of my eyes. So most of the night I was perplexed by two questions.
If they only bite to feed larvae, why did this skeeter keep biting me several times while trapped indoors? Did it have hope to get outside or did it lay its young in the house? It returned for more several times and tried several spots like my wrist which it didn’t seem to like as much as my eye bags. Does it really only feed the young?
Do skeeters choose the sounds they make? This article suggests only for mating but yesterday’s experience suggests to me that they have a distress sound (I get a higher pitch when I am anxious too). I think this critter also knew to keep quiet around my ears.

I think there’s more to skeeters than these scientists suppose.
